CME Manitoba 2016/17 Annual Report

At CME Manitoba, we strive to ensure that the needs of manufacturers are addressed through a range of resources. A review of the highlights of the past 12 months is outlined in our annual report.

Industrie 2030 Action Plan: Manufacturing Growth, Innovation and Prosperity for Canada
Manufacturing Growth, Innovation and Prosperity for Canada is an action plan resulting from the input of more than 1,250 Canadian manufacturers and exporters. The plan defines specific recommendations to overcome challenges and create a roadmap for the future of manufacturing, to strengthen its footprint across the country, and to drive growth, innovation, wealth creation and jobs. Core recommendations include:

  • Building a strong labour pool and skilled workforce;
  • Accelerating adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies;
  • Fostering innovation, commercialization and new product development;
  • Creating a competitive business environment in Canada; and
  • Increasing access to domestic ‎and foreign markets.

Management Issues Survey 2016
CME’s biannual Management Issues Survey (MIS) is one of our most important tools for taking the pulse of the manufacturing community. It provides valuable insight into the mindset, aspirations and concerns of manufacturers – both in terms of their day-to-day struggles as well as their longer-term strategic goals. In total, 553 companies responded to CME’s 2016 MIS. There was strong representation from across Canada, and a majority of businesses operated in more than one province.

This paper profiles the manufacturing sector in Canada. It establishes a global context for Canadian manufacturing and examines recent growth trends in output, exports and provincial activity. More importantly, it analyzes the economic impact of manufacturing across Canada, including the indirect and induced spinoff effects in other industries.

A National Strategy for Canadian Manufacturing in the Digital Age
This paper is the result of extensive consultations with businesses and other stakeholders across the country. It identifies the risks, challenges and opportunities that manufacturers and exporters face in the modern world. More importantly, it includes concrete recommendations for action towards our goal of doubling manufacturing output and value-added

Roadmap to 2030: A path towards doubling Canadian manufacturing output and export
Roadmap to 2030 sets the stage for CME’s Industrie 2030 initiative by setting out the importance of manufacturing to the Canadian economy, providing the global context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and identifying the key areas of focus for the consultation exercise. This discussion document is the foundation for which our cross-country discussions with industry and innovation leaders are based and will assist us in creating a roadmap and implementation strategy to help us achieve our goal to double manufacturing output and value-added exports by 2030.
