CME Manitoba hosted its first Women In Manufacturing (WIM) Meeting

Published by CME Manitoba on August 20, 2018

On Monday, July 30, CME Manitoba welcomed over 40 industry stakeholders to come together to discuss the current state of women in manufacturing. We were proud to welcome CME National Board Chair, Rhonda Barnet to present the national WIM initiative. CME created a National Working Group for WIM and launched it in 2017. With over 20 members from across the country, and continuing to expand, the National Working Group has created and completed a Women in Manufacturing survey with over 880 respondents. The results show that 43 per cent of women avoid a career in manufacturing because of its poor reputation, and 40 per cent think that improving the image of manufacturing would attract more women to the industry.

During the event, both challenges and opportunities were presented and discussed. A few challenges included finding a balance between shift work and child or parent care, the current image of manufacturing and the lack of understanding of the endless possibilities a career in manufacturing can entail.

Stay tuned for more information.
