Published by CME Manitoba on April 07, 2017

Front-line leadership training that can transform your business

Today’s front-line leaders need the ability to engage people, involve everyone in continuous improvement and innovation, coach employees and create an agile and committed workforce to achieve business goals. This 6 ½ day program is delivered in three modules scheduled between April 13, 2017 to June 23. This transformative program has received rave reviews from participants to date.

We had a number of our leadership team participate in CME's Leadership Development program and it was received very well by the participants and mentors. The program was filled with very useful and simple to use leadership tools. Participants liked the flow of the course and follow-up by the instructor. One of my favorite components of the program was the mentorship aspect. The program had a very defined process for following up with participants and ensuring they were utilizing the new tools they had learned in the program.

All of us have participated in a learning event where we were very excited about what we learned and then soon forgot about it the instant we got back to work and were caught up in the day to day business. The mentorship element of this program allows organizations to fully leverage what participants have learned.

We have noticed a significant difference in the way our supervisors interact with our team. The daily huddles now have more discussion around collaboration, and how they are stronger as a team.

Because our supervisors have continued with weekly leadership meetings, they are able to regularly refresh themselves on what they learned, and together they tackle any new challenges in front of them.

We definitely found it to be a helpful course. We intend on putting another four supervisors through the next available leadership course. We also plan on further education in LEAN Manufacturing - several of our production workers have shown a keen interest in the courses.

We believe we will see reduced turnover as a result of specific job-related courses for our staff. In the long run, this will definitely have a positive impact on our business, as new employees require specialized training for manufacturing our products. In the plant as a whole, the morale has been higher since our supervisors have taken the leadership course. There is more interest in learning about production methods and sharing that learning with others.

Growing skills (leadership or other) doesn't just happen. It takes a focused effort by both the mentor and mentee. While regular 1:1 meetings with my staff are part of our routine, these often become status updates on what's going on in their work lives. Since this course, I have been shifting the focus back to development of their leadership skills.

I would absolutely recommend this training to others. We are committed to sending other leaders to this course in the future. The combination of a mentor from our company, along with access to coaching from the course facilitator, is very beneficial. Having 'skin in the game' by both the mentor and mentee is something unique and very positive about this training.

Leadership style has a direct impact on company culture. As more of our leaders improve their skills, our employees will become more engaged. In turn, this positive impact to culture will improve teamwork, organizational learning and operational performance.

CME’s Leadership Development Program provides front-line leaders with these skills. What’s more, an industry-leading mentorship component is integral to the program. Building on CME’s bench strength in LEAN, peer-facilitated learning and manufacturing industry expertise, program participants are supported by mentors from their own company who help them apply workshop teachings in their own work environments. The combination of classroom and functional learning expands course impact and affects real change.

The ratio of participants to mentors changes from company to company depending on your needs and resources, but the benefits are cross-functional and the results, immediate.
