Women in manufacturing: make your voice heard

Published by CME Manitoba on September 13, 2017

CME’s Women in Manufacturing Working Group is conducting a survey to identify the challenges women face in advancing their careers in manufacturing, the perception of manufacturing as a career option for women, and the barriers that impede women-led manufacturing firms.

Based on the survey findings, CME will create and implement an action plan that can assist manufacturers in attracting, retaining and advancing women in manufacturing careers in Canada. The action plan will be released at our October Annual Meeting in Ottawa (

To ensure that we are as effective we need to hear from women working in all areas and sectors in manufacturing across Canada.

All members, and in particular - women in manufacturing, are asked to please complete the survey. In Manitoba, the share of manufacturing jobs held by women remains relatively stagnant. Only 5.8 per cent of employed women in the province have a job in manufacturing compared to 16 per cent of all men. This survey will help us build a strong foundation to advocate for advancement. Together, we can manufacture change.
